The St. James Township Campground sits on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan, as well as nearby Garden, Squaw and Whiskey Islands. Located just off Donegal Bay Road near the end of the bike trail, the rustic campground is a great place to spend your nights while staying on beautiful Beaver Island. Our 12 campsites are rustic in nature, but hand pumps and pit toilets are available. Conveniently located just a short walk from both downtown St. James and the popular swimming beach at Donegal Bay. Our campsites are allotted on a first-come, first-serve basis. $15 per night. You will enjoy beautiful sunsets and may be lucky enough to view the Northern Lights. Definitely a dark sky destination! NOTICE TO CAMPERS
JAMES TOWNSHIP CAMPGROUND WORK TO BEGIN
Renovations to the campground are due to begin shortly which involve removal of some trees, heavy equipment travel, noise and the closing of campsites 10-18 for renovation. Sites 1-9 will remain open for campers. The picnic area and bike path will remain open for public use as well.
Power washing and painting of the latrine building will take place the first part of July and then will be open to the public.
We will be adding:
- a new water well and running water spigots
- (4) outdoor shower enclosures with hot! water
- electricity to campsites 10-18 of the campground
- new fire rings and picnic tables
- an ADA portable latrine
We apologize for the disruption but hope to finish the most impactful work by the end of July with some construction targeted where the portable latrine is currently located.
Please watch for trucks M-F, no construction work will be done on the weekends.
We thank you for your patience.
